A: Yes. Butylated Hydroxytoluene, or BHT, is chemically manufactured with the reaction of p-cresol with isobutylene.

P-cresol is an alcohol present in coal tar, which comes from bituminous coal, which is formed from peat, a plant source. Isobutylene is a type of hydrocarbon, composed only of carbon and hydrogen.
